Story of a Poet

from Biscuit EP by Arty del Rio

/

about

A13 verse story that perhaps will be interpreted and misinterpreted by the listener based on their experience from their loss of innocence.

lyrics

I’d forgotten what it felt to find another soul
who reminds of myself and all I stand for
but don't waste your words on me I know what you're like
you're the darkness behind windows that mirrors my life

Your instincts are false your curse will not stick
the stars caught you practicing all your old tricks
just be grateful this benevolent beast
won't let you steal this heart upon which to feast

It may cause you pain and me so much more
to let you inside the door to my soul
the only thing you'll find is the trust in myself
that I won't be lured into the depths of beauty's hell

Love was the answer once upon a time
till I reached that road and finally realised
that jealousy is a natural sin and those unfulfilled
will attempt to deny but betray what they feel

But how can you lose what you never had
and how can you gain without a reference in hand
so I'll feed you emotion through my intellect
for the beauty in truth is it shows real intent

The sun will no longer let the moon arise
from her long journey of truth serum and lies
for in the heart's house don't expect any reason
but shelter another with it that I do call treason

Conspirators amongst you, one spoke out first
telling me about how her quench for thirst
made me a marked man, and her a common liar
letting me think I'd fulfil her insatiable desire

She owed me no loyalty nor I forgiveness
but to be true that dat she should have made her business
accepting as fate the story of my life
tricked into believing it began when she arrived

And there we both were so close yet so far
both drunk on affection and on tap at the bar
then we kissed once and I saw tenderness
die on the lips of a random witness

That scene's been played for ever and a day
where the fool arrives humbly and then is betrayed
and falling from grace she didn't mind at all
as if a universal yin-yang law

But if you ask me what i learnt then I'll say
you'll have to pass the tests she unconsciously lays
and if you think I'm telling you my woes out of spite
well maybe that's the first thing that you've ever got right

For others tried to teach me the same
in songs, prose, books the perils of this game
and did I not learn till experience had passed
and so my duty calls to tell you at last

so you may learn too how the seduction goes
but why should you listen as if I did long ago
and no one's to blame when you fall and didn't know it
that the messenger was here disguised as a poet
